I drove across the USA on 38 gallons of gas

According to puregreencars.com:

Hypermiler Wayne Gerdes drove a 2011 Sonata Hybrid 2269.3 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean averaging 61.42 miles per gallon with 38 gallons of fuel consumed for the entire trip. Wayne Gerdes left the Pacific Ocean in San Diego, CA on December 26, 2010 and completed the challenge drive to the Atlantic on Jekyll Island, GA on January 1, 2011.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the only hybrid currently on the market that puts more of an emphasis on highway fuel economy and that better reflects the way most Americans drive. The Sonata Hybrid delivers 40-mpg highway fuel economy rating and 35 mpg in the city, with a 37 mpg combined city/highway rating from the EPA.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid uses a full parallel hybrid system, which utilizes a 169HP 2.4-liter Theta II linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission, a 30kW (151 lb-ft) electric motor and a lithium polymer batteries, producing a combined output of 209 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and 195 lb-ft of torque.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will be priced at $25,795, plus a delivery fee of $750, when it arrives in the company’s dealerships later this month.
