Hybrid Cars and New Car Dealerships in Cincinnati

OK, give me the benefit of the doubt here, but sometime in the very near future, the hybrid car won’t evoke the same response when we see it on the freeways now: “Hey, look at that…I think that’s a hybrid car.” In fact, it will be quite the opposite: “Hey, look at that…they still using fossil fuels.” Ok, i know that is a little extreme and the idea of abandoning Fossil Fuels in our lifetime is somewhat a grandiose idea. But the fact remains that hybrids are gaining in popularity. There are positives and negatives for adopting the hybrid in our mainstream auto culture..and here are just a few:

Advantages:

Hybrid cars are considered “the car of the future”. It is able to effectively conserve fuel and at the same time, it only produces low levels of toxic fumes.

Hybrid cars have two engines for it to effectively conserve fuel consumption. It has the traditional gasoline engine and it also has an electric motor and batteries. The two engines work together in order to cut fuel consumption. With this technology, you will be able to cut fuel usage by more than half. Just imagine, with a hybrid car, you will be able to go more than 60 miles to the gallon. With this kind of savings, hybrid cars are definitely the car of the future.

Hybrid car owners virtually do not feel the increasing cost in fuel prices. This is the main advantage of the hybrid car. There are other advantages that a hybrid car can give you. In fact, the President of the United States has signed an agreement that hybrid car buyers will be able to enjoy tax incentives. This means that by owning a hybrid car, you will be able to save money on taxes.

There are other benefits that the government imposes on hybrid car owners, such as free parking, and free entry to car pool lanes. Some even offer discounted fees on toll gates.

The braking in hybrid cars is also configured to capture the energy released and uses it to charge the batteries inside the hybrid car. This means that unlike electric cars, hybrid cars do not actually need to be charged from your home electric outlet.

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage of hybrid cars is that the retail price is quite expensive. However, the twist in all of this is that hybrid cars are actually cheaper when compared to conventional cars in the long run. If you compute the total fuel consumption of both cars, you will actually see that you can save a lot more money on hybrid cars.
Further, hybrid cars are relatively heavy because of the heavy batteries installed inside the car. This is why hybrid car manufacturers integrates smaller internal combustion engines and are constructed with light materials and should be aerodynamic in order to maximize efficiency.
Another issue about hybrids is that they can be very risky in accidents. What makes a hybrid car work effectively is also what makes it risky if you ever get involved in an accident. Hybrids store high amount of voltage in its batteries. This means that there is a high chance of getting electrocuted when you get involved in an accident. This also means that it is relatively difficult for rescuers to get the drivers and passengers out of the hybrid cars because of the dangers of high voltage in the car.

A new Honda Fit is coming and it’s all electric

It seems that the dawn of the electric car is now fully upon us as more and more auto makers seem to be putting more fully electric cars into production.  It seems that every day brings more new and exciting news about the future of electric cars with higher speeds and longer range.  Honda is now getting into the full electric market next year with the new Honda Fit EV concept that was recently shown at the Frankfurt Car Show.  Like the other cars that are coming onto the market, this new Fit will save buyers a lot of money normally spent on gas over the life of the car.

One of the biggest issues with these new electric cars is the range you get per charge, but the Honda Fit is expected to get around 100 miles per charge.  While that may not seem like a lot compared to a car that runs on gas, it is easy to do your daily driving and plug in the battery at night giving you the freedom to do your driving without having to watch a gas gauge.  The car is expected to have a maximum speed of 90 miles per hour, which is more than enough for highway driving.  The great part is, even when driving at highway speeds your car will still run silently.

The new Honda Fit EV is expected to begin production soon to be available for next years 2012 model line up in select states with a larger roll out coming later on. While there is no word yet on when the vehicle will be available nation wide, it shouldn’t be too much longer than the initial release.  The only thing that is left to know about the Honda Fit EV is what it will cost which should be known in the coming months.

So keep your eyes open for the new Honda electric car, and be sure to stop by Superior Cars if you need any more information.

The Honda CR-V is getting a sleek new look

After the SUV explosion at the turn of the millennium, people began to want more space to hold more passengers and have more storage space, but still get better gas mileage.  The result became the crossover.  Crossovers are mid-sized vehicles that provide the space and comfort of their SUV big brothers, but the handling and economy of a sedan.  One of the most popular crossovers to hit the market is the Honda CR-V.  The CR-V has come a long way from the first models, and starting with the next model year, it will only get better.

A sleeker body design, and more options packed inside, the recent CR-V concept will make the 2012 model look as good as it drives.  USA Today has a great review of what is to come in the next Honda crossover.

We suspect that Honda will, as the 2012 CR-V is due to go on sale by the end of the year and it almost always keeps it production cars looking almost exactly like the concepts. This small crossover that is already the best-seller in the segment could raise the bar for the others.

Besides dramatic styling, it will be lighter, and it will feature better gas mileage and more interior space.

“The 2012 CR-V Concept introduces the exterior styling for the more sophisticated and dynamic design of the upcoming production model,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. “Long considered the benchmark for packaging and user-friendly design in the small SUV segment, the all-new CR-V will offer an added dimension of style, amazing interior versatility and Honda’s latest technologies for convenience and refinement.”

So if you are looking to trade in your gas guzzler, but don’t want to give up the space and comfort that it has, then keep your eyes open for the next CR-V, which you’ll be able to get at Superior Cars.

Check Engine Light on…AGAIN?

Sometimes having your “check engine” come on can be a little unnerving. What’s going on? Is it serious? Are you ruining your engine? How quickly do you have to bring in your car to check it? Before you freak out totally, s common check engine light problem that we run into often would be a set code for the evaporation emission control system. Sometimes this code is caused by a loose gas cap. We’ve also seen defective rubber seals on the cap itself trigger the code.

Now, this is the easy solution. Please be aware that a gas cap is not the only problem that can set a check engine light code for this system. In fact vehicle manufacturers have actually made it much harder for a loose fuel cap to set a trouble code. But in the end it will still turn the check engine lamp on if it continues to leak fuel vapor. This page will be about other causes of vapor leak codes. But if you are interested in more information on the loose or leaking fuel cap subject I found a gas cap code video that discusses this common check engine light problem. The video outlines steps you can take to correct the issue before spending time and money at the car repair center.

For a better explanation, I found the following at online autorepair.com

Emission control systems codes

First a little background on what the system is all about, why it is deployed on the automobile and what other kinds of problems can cause a code to set. The fuel evaporation emission control system reduces the amount of raw fuel vapors that are emitted into the air from a vehicle’s fuel system.According to government standards, these vapors must not be allowed to escape from the fuel tank and into the atmosphere. Since the first systems were used nationwide in the late 70s several advances have been added. Some of the modern systems include a special gas tank designed to limit the amount of fuel that can be put in the tank.

This unfilled space in the tank allows for in tank storage of vapor as well as expansion and contraction of the gas itself. It is hard to believe but in the old days they use to have a vented fuel cap to avoid pressure buildup in the system. Nowadays a completely sealed gas cap is used.

The on-board evaporation emission control system is responsible for venting fuel pressure to the intake manifold when it is required. One of the main parts of the fuel vapor emissions system is the charcoal canister. The canister is connected to the fuel tanks vapor line and is usually located in the engine compartment.Fuel vapors from the gas tank are routed to the canister and stored. When the vehicle is started vapors are drawn from the canister to the intake manifold by engine vacuum. Keep in mind that different vehicle manufacturers will deploy different methods of handling this function. On many new vehicles the computer will operate relays, solenoids and valves to burn this unwanted vapor at the right time.

Canister purge valve problems

Another common check engine light problem is the canister purge valve. This is usually an electronically controlled and vacuum operated device that has several fittings on it. One of the more common canister purge valves would be one with three fittings. Most often these consist of a vacuum input signal that controls the device slaved to the car’s main computer, a vapor inlet port and a purge port that will run a vacuum line to the intake manifold. This component can turn on and off and burn fuel vapor at the most opportune times.

When common check engine light problems occur different codes can set for the different components that are mentioned above. If you have a code in the P0400 range this refers to an evaporation emission system malfunction. In my opinion your best bet would be to follow a diagnostic chart for that specific code this is often the shortest distance to a repaired automobile.

Of course the easiest way is to have a profession mechanic take a look at your vehicle and take all of the guess work out of self diagnosis…you’ll certainly save your self a lot of time and possibly a few headaches if you bring it in.

Going topless in a Honda Hybrid

Ok, now that your mind is out of the gutter. let me introduce you to what is potentially the world’s first convertible hybrid car, the Honda CR-Z. This has been an on-off story for a little while, but Honda’s open-top CR-Z has taken a twist with the unearthing of a scale model that
could prove the project is back in the pipeline.

Auto Express reports:

Hard-top and convertible CR-Zs were reputedly developed side-by-side, but the latter was dropped in 2009 before it made production. Reports suggest Honda engineers didn’t think the weight needed to strengthen convertible bodyshells suited the car’s sporty character.
However, this model suggests they’ve solved that problem. Taking inspiration from the Honda Open
Study concept (main picture), which was revealed at
the 2008 British Motor Show, this CR-Z convertible
is given a stretched rear to accommodate a weight-
saving canvas roof. There has been no official word from  Honda yet, but a spokesman told us: “Don’t rule it out.”
Having a convertible hybrid in the summer is not only going too help your bank account….you’ll also get a great tan!
If anyone has any more information regarding the Honda CR-Z leave me a comment.

Want to see the new re-designed 2012 Honda Civic

Of course you do!

Slated to drop on US shores in 2011, the new Civic has gone through some pretty impressive changes. Check out the video from edmunds.com

The last time Honda redesigned the Civic was in 2006. Five years later, Honda is set to release the 2012 Honda Civic.

For now, the automaker has only provided a sketch of upcoming Civic. The drawing “conveys the sleek and aerodynamic profile of the show vehicle,” says Honda.

“The production version of the ninth-generation 2012 Civic based on the revealed concept will go on-sale in spring 2011. John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales, will introduce the concept vehicle at a press conference.”

Here’s what you’ll be seeing on our lot sooner than later!

Honda is well known for producing quality vehicles, and with affordable small cars offering a complete package of affordability, good fuel economy and jazzy styling, Honda has to keep up with the best of the pack. The 2012 Honda Civic may be even better than its older sibling.

Goodbye Element…. We loved you!

It is officially one sad sad day in the world of us Honda lovers. Don’t cry! There are still great Honda’s to come. Don’t you even fret your little head over it. I have to tell you…. The Honda Element is no more.

After a nine-year run, the Honda Element will officially be killed off after the 2011 model year. The Element has suffered from slow sales numbers over the past few years, and in the model’s death notice, Hondaspecifically cites that a large amount of customers prefer the better refinement and improved fuel economy of the automaker’s CR-V crossover.

Since its debut in December of 2002, more than 325,000 Elements have been sold in the United States. During its lifespan, we saw the introduction of the bolder-looking SC model in 2007, and just last year, Honda began offering the 2010 Element with a dog-friendly package. Modest facelifts over the years have helped keep the Element somewhat fresh, but newer competitors on the scene have helped expose weaknesses in refinement and power. That said, Honda’s boxy sport-ute has long been praised for its utility-oriented and easy-to-maintain interior – not to mention kicking off the modern styling trend of boxy vehicles. – AutoBlog

What do you guys think? Are you sad or happy that the Honda Element is no more?
