“According to a new study by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, 25% percent of U.S. teens aged 16 to 17 who have cell phones admitted to texting while driving, and twice as many say they have been in the car with someone that has. This and other driving distractions have been the cause of a reported 5,870 fatalities and 515,000 injuries in the past year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Texting has been found to be so dangerous, professional truck and bus drivers who “text and drive” can be subject to civil or criminal penalties of up to $2,750.” Cell Cease(TM)
A Phone Application Wants Your Teen Driver To Keep Your Eyes On The Road….
Texting while driving has become a very serious issue in a short amount of time. In addition to passengers, CD’s and the like, teens can be easily distracted while driving. Texting is a very fast, easy way to communicate and they think they can do it real quick and be done. However, taking their eyes off the road even for a second can cost them their life. A new cell phone application has decided to tackle this distraction in the car head on. It was designed specifically with teens in mind. Cell Cease(TM) will prohibit your teens from texting while they are moving more than 5 mph. Don’t worry it will allow them to continue to receive phone calls from approved phone numbers, but you as the parent have complete control. It will also allow them receive and make calls to 911.
One thing to remember is this application is constantly running so it will eat your battery life up. Possibly as much as 20%. If your teenager is just a passenger and not the driver they are still unable to use their phones as long as the phone is moving faster than 5 mph. So it could be incapacitated on the bus, boat, bike, or just if they were walking fast or running.
What do you guys think about this application? Is it something you would want your teens to have?
Nowadays you can’t even do it here in Canada, they passed a regulation that people using phones while driving will be fined $500. You still see it all the time, but its a lot less frequent and stats show accidents have gone down.
That’s good! They have laws here where you can’t in school zones but doesn’t mean people don’t still try.
