Upgrading Your Car Audio

With all of the advancements in car audio systems these days, it’s no wonder that the stereo system is the first thing to be upgraded. People want more power, better speakers and receivers in their Cincinnati cars, which makes sense, after all, we do spend a lot of time in our cars these days. So, what’s the best way to go about adding an advanced audio system to your new car?

It all depends on what you are looking for and what your budget is. It is very easy to go overboard with an audio installation, which can also break your budget. Today the trend is louder and clearer audio dynamics with an apparent focus on having people hear your “boom” 50 blocks away. Let’s be reasonable here. I’m not going to preach about hearing loss and all that stuff, sometimes the only way to listen to a good song is with the volume cranked up.

Just be aware, of two things, you are probably in danger of breaking a noise ordinance…yes it happens, I know a guy who was ticketed for this. Also, hearing damage can never be repaired. You know that ringing you get after listening to something at high volumes for a period of time? Yeah ,well that’s called tinnitus and it’s the sound of the cells of your ear drum dying. So keep that in mind when you decide to put two 2,000 what amplifiers in your vehicle to make it a virtual concert arena on wheels.

So what’s the best way to shop for a new audio system for your Cincinnati car? Check out this video:

It’s Probably Time You Changed Your Air Filter

A dirty air filter can affect the fuel economy and overall vehicle performance of your Cincinnati car. Both diesel and gasoline powered engines are designed to maintain a specific air-fuel ratio. A restricted air filter can affect the way the engine maintains the correct air-fuel mixture. If the air filter is restricted, the fuel mileage and overall vehicle drive-ability can deteriorate rapidly.

Removing and replacing your air filter is actually rather easy and you should be able to do it on your own. Simply remove the air filter element from the air filter housing. Clean the air filter housing and inspect the fresh air duct hose for any damage, dirt or obstructions. Inspect the warm air intake hose for signs of deterioration. Then just install a new filter element and reinstall the air filter housing access panel.

So, what’s the advantage of replacing your air filter? Besides the obvious better performance, replacing your air filter element is a quick and effective way to keep your engine running at its peak performance. A clean air filter helps your engine work more efficiently by letting the airflow get to the engine with no restrictions. Further, a clean air filter can also prolong the life of your engine.

If you think it’s time for you replace your engine air filter, then you are probably already way over due. If you’d like expert mechanics to help you do this, just bring your Cincinnati car to any Superior Automotive location and we’ll be able to do it for you for a very reasonable charge. While you here, you should probably consider getting your oi changed as well…just a suggestion.

The Most Expensive Car Wash In The World

If you are like most Cincinnati car owners, sometimes washing your car is an after thought. We’ll let our cars go until there is a visible layer of dirt and grime.  At some point your car is going to get so dirty, you just can’t stand it, so you bring it over to your local car wash for a power scrub and a wax. What’s the first thing you notice? The price of course! You think to yourself, “Thirty-Five dollars for a wash and wax? That’s highway robbery!”. Well, compared to the wash in the video below, that’s wooden nickles in comparison.

This is the man who built up Britain’s most expensive car wash — from his mum’s GARAGE. Car fanatic Gurcharn Sahota, 30, started cleaning neighbours’ motors for FREE with a bucket and sponge when he was a teenager. Gurcharn has now built his own Formula 1 style pit garage where wealthy drivers pay up to £7,000-a-time for a luxury car wash. He travels with up to 100 different cleaning fluids that need special clearance at customs. The wax alone he uses costs a cool £8,200 a tub.

According to my calculations, £8,200 is roughly $13,015 a tub! That is totally insane! I guess if you can spend $2 Million on a car you can afford an $11,000 luxury car wash. I’ll bet that $35 car wash doesn’t look so expensive now, does it?

That’s just one of the many little gems I find when souring the net for topics and subjects to share with Cincinnati car owners here at Superior Car Talk. The next time you are in the market for a new or used car in Cincinnati, make sure you swing by any Superior Automotive location.

How Do Catalytic Converters Work

What is one of the most important parts of your Cincinnati car? The Catalytic converter.  It is also one of the least understood. Let’s put this simply. The catalytic converter, in essence, takes the toxic gases your car produces and “converts” them in less than 1/10 of a second to recombine toxic gas molecules into harmless gasses such as Nitrogen and Oxygen.

The gas passes into micro-ducts in the catalytic converter, of which there are over 400 ducts per square inch. The combined surface area of the micro-ducts, when laid out would cover a football field. Think of it as a laboratory the size of a football field and folded onto itself in order to remain small.

Check out the video below for how the catalytic actually works.

In theory, the catalytic converter can take care of all of the pollution your car will produce. However, as was stated in the video, that’s only when the catalytic converter is at its optimal operating temperature. In order to get to that temperature, you are going to have to drive about 6 miles to reach that temperature. Until then, your car is still producing a fairly significant amount of toxins. Unfortunately, until we can improve on the design of the catalytic converter, it still remains one of the best defenses against some of the extreme pollution our cars can make. Can you imagine what it would be like without them?

How to turn a 10K car into a 4.6 million dollar car

If you have been driving over the past 4 or 5 years, then you have probably noticed that cars seem to be getting smaller and smaller.  I remember the first time that I saw a Smart Car drive by me on the highway thinking, “Wow, that’s a fast golf cart!” These super-compact cars have been seen on the roads of Europe and India for years, but they are becoming more and more popular in the U.S. The reasons seem simple enough, they provide good gas mileage and are also very easy on the pocket book.  Well, one family has turned an Indian super-compact to anything but a penny saver.

The Tata family owns stores that deals with gold, so as a nod to their normal business venture they bought a Nano, which is an Indian car that would run for less than $7,000 if it were sold in the United States.  That would be a great thrifty buy for someone who has billions of dollars.  Of course, they couldn’t stop there.  The covered the car in more than 175 pounds of 22 carat gold, 30 pounds of silver, and more precious gems than your local Zale’s store probably has.  The result?  A car that is now worth $4.6 million dollars.

While accessorizing and making your car unique has become a part of car ownership, this car seems to go a little bit too far.  You have to be pretty out there to think that you want to get a new paint job on your car and instead encase the entire body in precious metals and stones.  While this clearly isn’t for everyone, it still is a sight to behold, even if the sight is a gaudy one.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced car that will make you feel like a million bucks, then be sure to come into Superior Cars.
